If the ball hits the back board, the ball is off limits, correct?

I've been questioned if the ball hits the board and continues up, not down that you can still block the ball without a goal tending violation. I can't find that rule.

Does anybody agree?

If a shot hits the backboard, but is still rising when it is blocked by a defender, then it is not a goaltending violation. Per rule 4-20-22, goaltending can only occur when "the ball is in downward flight".

A player could commit basket interference after the ball hits the backboard, but while it is still rising. This would happen if the ball were touched while in the cylinder.

John, you're thinking of the NBA rules. In both HS and college, touching the ball on its upward flight is legal even after it touches the backboard (unless it's in the cylinder, as Ron pointed out).

Not to start another long thread

But if the defensive rebounder intentionally slaps the backboard on the opposite side you "Whack" him with a T.
