Luckily, my partner glances over to see what the ruckus is and calls the 30-second timeout the coach had been so feverishly asking for. The "A" coach and clock operator at the same time say "Wouldn't 'timeout' have been much easier?"
I made this mistake once in my first year of coaching MS ball (except then it was 20 seconds!). Ref told me to call timeout and then let him know which type. Always do it right away.

As for full vs. 30 when the other team calls it, I can say that officials could be better about letting the opposing coaches know, as a general rule. They report it to the table but usually do not look at us or tell us.

On timeouts ,I communicate clearly and loud enough
1.Who Requested
2.Tell partner mini or full (so he knows where to position himself on the court)
3.If both teams are close by I say again as they are heading for their benches. If not close by, communicate in a position the timeout, so there is no doubt all 10 players know what it is.
Maybe, Coaches do not ask their players what timeout was requested or maybe they do.
I do not think you can over communicate?
This seems to work for me?

Can I do better???

I never ask my players. I expect to have the official communicate it to me. Players may not know for sure. Officials have to know what type of TO they have recognized.
