The most popular sentence that coach like to say (to refrres)in Israel is:
"explin my how it can be that we have 5 fouls and the oppoent team have only 1 fouls"?"it's look to you like normal situation"?"in my home"?... |

On second thought, that might not be a good idea.Forget it. |
I like you'r way of thinking Jurassic ref'........
but it is better to me not to explain him nothing. ususally and in most of the cases i'm asking him: what do you want me to do ?to make it 5 fouls each team? i'm refree not bookkeeper!!!(did i write it correct?...) |
This is good. "I'm referee not bookkeeper." I'm going to try and start using Romano's accent/dialect when talking with coaches.... a real confused look ... like, what you say? I no understand. 5 yes. 1 yes. This is very good. must go now. so long.
|
By the way, I empathize with you ROMANO and am in no way poking fun at your speech ... I just enjoy hearing it. Thanks for getting in the discussion.

Try this Davism: "I'd answer you coach but I left my English-Jibberish dictionary at home". I guess you could say "Hebrew-Jibberish".

Coaches in Israel speak in complete sentences??
|
My favorite line in this situation is:
"Coach. I'm not going to make them up to even them up!" __________________________________________________ __________ |
This works if his team is leading....
Well, coach, since you are up by ten let me go over to the table and even out both the score and the fouls!
|
I can see that people here lahughing about my language.

The answer for you'r question is NO! |
ROMANO

Your English is not really so bad. You are almost always completely understandable. But the way you put your sentences together is not how it's "normally" done in U.S. Sometimes you leave out small words. For instance, in the above sentence, you left out the word "to". It should be, "Can someone explain to me why?" Don't sweat it. Nobody's picking on you, honest. I think we're all just enjoying hearing a different accent on the board. For example, we had an official who often posted from Australia. (Where has Duane gone, anyway?) We would occasionally poke fun at some of the words or phrases he used that were not in common usage in the States. It's done in good humor (usually :) ), and not to make anyone feel bad. Keep posting, ok?!?! Chuck |
ROMANO,
I used to live and play in Israel. Let me just say that your English is a HECK of a lot better then most people's Hebrew, so you are one up on everyone!! Favorite line by an official in Israel "Your American, you are used to rough play." |
for me it's not easy to write english, because in israel we speak as you know Hebrew.
one of the reasons that i'm writing in this forum is to improve my language.and to speak correct english. so be nice(please)and don't laugh about my language. enyway i like to write in this forum.... |
Thank you Fletch irwin!!!!
you make my day..... p.s where did you play? |
I played in Jerusalem Hoepel (?) second level "B"(?) Then played for an Arab Club (El Hilael?) The club is located in NE corner of the Old City inside the walls. I have a poster of me shooting a lay up with the Dome of the Rock in the background. Great experience, can't believe it was 10 years ago!!
Plus, NO CALL IS THE BEST CALL I think is the motto of most officials I had there, except for ME!! HA HA |
