You're a NCAA-W official right? The Women's NIT is tonight and Friday.

Our local kids rec league had an official a few years ago who was the topic of discussion every time any of the officials who worked that league got together, especially if the officials were fairly young and inexperienced. They would discuss everything from how that official dressed to that official's demeanor to that official's appearance. Of course, it was because that official was a hot college co-ed.

Easiest way to deal with this type of stuff is to simply not participate. When others start "bashing" on people in your Association, simply change the subject to a story about you. Or just walk away. Once people start letting others know that it isn't acceptable, people will stop doing it. It's a slow process, but I've seen it work.

People will still do it, they just will not do it in your presence.

Peace

Or in the presence of others who begin to emulate you...or in the presence of the others who begin to emulate them..and on and on.

Only takes one person to start a change.

I do not disagree with you that you can influence others, but that is just the nature of what we do and the competition of it. There are newer officials that come in and think they should be working the top games yesterday and will tell you about it. I almost always try to steer people away from those kinds of conversations but they still have them anyway. There are always going to be negative people that see something and try to nitpick it. We have people here that go crazy if an official does one little thing that is not "perfect" in the mechanics books or standard. Heck even here we cannot agree on how rules should be applied, so why would I expect people to think someone working a game is not going to come with negative comments from time to time. I am not saying I condone it; just do not believe we can ultimately do anything about it. You can change your little neck of the woods in a little way, but there will always be a contingent that are bitter and have negative things to say about others. Usually that is because most people do not like to look in the mirror and figure out why they have not achieved certain levels, but blame others or a system for their failures.

Peace

There's more to come, jake. You're now officially a running joke on this forum.

You've gone where few have gone before. You have attained Old School status here.
