I'm 18 from New Zealand and I am really interested in refereeing basketball in the States. I've refereed both at a national and international level.

Ultimately I would like to get payed to ref but how do I make the initial step? I would very much appreciate anyone who could give me any help with contacts or suggestions.
Thanks

If you wish to ref in the states, then the first thing to do is come here and get a job. Reffing in the states is not for those who want to do it full time. My best year of officiating has not matched my worst month of working for pay. I would suggest living somewhere that has a strong international community such as Los Angeles, San Fransico, New York or here in Colorado Springs. Then start working High School games and work your way up the ladder like the rest of us. Oh, don't forget the green card. You can't work in the U.S. without it.
