Why? I do not know. Does anyone else have a reason for handing the ball to the thrower, other than being instructed to?
It was explained to me that someone performing a FC endline throw-in has enough to think about, let alone catching your bounce, so just hand it to them. That worked for me, so I've developed the habit around that.

Besides, the habit works in an extra way to me. If I bounce, it's an additional self-reminder that we're in the backcourt, and if I hand off, it's an extra reminder that we're in the frontcourt. It makes for an additional preparation tool for the next play.

I am in Austin Area and the reason we were given has already been stated. The player catching bounce/toss is not gauranteed to catch it and there have been cases where officials bounced the ball and started their 5 count before player had opportunity to inbound. Thanks for all your responses... Stay safe.

I ask because I am surprised that they are deviating from the Federation mechanics, which is what we are supposed to use with a few exceptions (this is not one of them). Not a big deal by any stretch but just surprising.

An official starting their count before the ball is at disposal is a rules and mechanics issue and should be addressed separately IMO.

Sounds like a training issue.

Assuming of course there is a stoppage of play after the goal.

Or a player from the scoring team catches it out of the net & passes it to you...

Words To The Wise ...

Bounce when you can, hand when you must.

+1 but I am not sure about the "wise" part, unless there was a word after it!
