I've got Missouri beating Cincinnati (11 beats 6), Old Dominion beating Butler (9 beats 8), and Kansas State (I kind of like the Big 12) over Wisconsin (5 beats 4). Color me boring.

Heading towards a mediocre finish today.

Out of 168 people in a pool I joined, 1 person had the first four games today correct (including Morehead St.).

The guy who picked Louisville must feel like he was relegated to the bench.

Raymond Thu Mar 17, 2011 08:05pm

My 2 losses so far don't hurt me b/c I had Louisville and ODU losing in the 2nd round. I did pick Richmond to make it to the Sweet 16, so one upset has come through for me and now they get to play a #13 seed. And the team I have winning, Kansas, already has the #4 and #5 seed gone from it's region. Hopefully they don't choke like they did last year.

No kidding. Yesterday he thought, "I am going to be hailed as a genius!" Now...not so much. But hey, most of us will be saying the same thing come Sunday.

SCalScoreKeeper Fri Mar 18, 2011 12:07am

Rich,
I knew someone a few years ago who went 16 for 16 on the first day.Never been that lucky-I actually felt pretty good about going 10 for 16 today!

Rich Fri Mar 18, 2011 05:32am

I actually got 12 right and feel like I should've done better. Puts me in a tie for 8th here and in a tie for 28th in the pool of 168 (where only one person finished with 8 picks -- all the other 167 got at least 9 right and the leader got 15/16). In another pool I'm in, I am in 31st out of 162 entries (where, again, only one entry picked 8 right with all the rest doing better).

ESPN reports 317 perfect brackets out of the 5.9 million entered. That number will dwindle today.

The President's Barack-et went 14-2.

I lost Louisville (but I only had them winning one more game). My wife picked Morehead St. (she knows nothing about college hoops and will probably beat me -- last year we actually both cashed in a large pool we joined). I just checked -- she only got 11, but she didn't lose a Sweet 16 team.

Raymond Fri Mar 18, 2011 07:50am

9:30 games killed me. 1-3 and lost 2 Sweet 16 teams. :o

M&M Guy Fri Mar 18, 2011 09:11am

Hey, Tony - I noticed someone put in a number of entries under your name. The reason I figured you didn't do it was I noticed one of them had...(wait for it)...DUKE listed as National Champion!

And, if you really did put in a number of brackets, what about "The Sheet of Integrity"? I could jump up 5 or 6 spots if I didn't have all those extra entries to deal with... :D

I was cruising till the late games. Mizzou cooled off and Michigan St never heated up. St John's never showed up. And my upset pick of Utah State didn't pan out, either.

You must not have watched the end. Mich St was down 24 in the second half, then finally started getting hot by hitting 3's while UCLA was missing FT's. With one more defensive stop, they had a shot to tie or win at the very end.

That's why I lose sleep this time of year - not because I worry about my picks, but I'm forced to stay up and watch these close ones.

Forced, I tell 'ya.

Adam Fri Mar 18, 2011 09:40am

Just for kicks, I set up a bracket with no upsets and went 13-3 yesterday; only lost 1 SS team (Vandy). This'll be interesting.

St. Johns killed me here, though. I had them beating Michigan State. :(

Damn, I was in 5th place before the last set of games last night and now I'm 57th. But I'm still in the group with 2nd best PPR so there is hope.

Dang, I had Pitt losing in the championship game. :(

McMac Sun Mar 20, 2011 12:20pm

I'm happy with where I am at. 30 points out of first, but with the most PPR of those above or near me. All of my E8 are alive and I got 6 of 8 yesterday, including Butler over Pitt. Excited for the rest of this tourney. Been some very exciting games.

I think a chimpanzee with a big bracket and a bunch of darts would do better with his picks than I have.

My wife, who knows about as much about NCAA Basketball as said chimpanzee, is winning our home brackets.....and has OSU to go all the way.

Next year, I may have her make my online picks for me. :o

26 Year Gap Mon Mar 21, 2011 09:27am

I hope a double digit seed comes out of the Kansas region. Of course, I have Kansas getting to the Final 4. But, when your bracket stinks, it really is not a matter of degrees.

JugglingReferee Thu Mar 24, 2011 09:52pm

bttt

Raymond Thu Mar 24, 2011 10:51pm

2-0 early in brackets I could still score points in and underdogs winning late in the brackets I was already dead in. Good combo. Might help me finish 40th...LOL

WOW, I just checked and I jumped from 50th to 19th just from UConn and Florida winning.

Me too because I'm going to San Antonio for those games. It would be awesome to see a 10, 11, or 12 win the Region.

If Kansas wins no one will care in two years, but if a double-digit seed wins people will take about it for years to come.

Be prepared to drop like a stone. You only have a possible 160 points remaining.

Adam Fri Mar 25, 2011 05:07pm

I'm really hoping for "not last" at this point; although a complete destruction of my bracket would be comical enough to be worth it.

grunewar Fri Mar 25, 2011 05:15pm

Well, I'm at least competitive (#12) for now, with 3 of my 4 final four remaining.

Similar to Jim Carey's character in Dumb and Dumber - "So, what you're saying is, I've got a chance."

Not really. But, at least I'm not embarassed! ;)

Raymond Fri Mar 25, 2011 11:07pm

Nah, there are a few who still have 800 PPR.

I have a 560 PPR, all contingent on Kanas winning out. So it's now officially impossible for me to win as there are at 4-5 folks in front of me who have Kansas winning out.

Lcubed48 Sat Mar 26, 2011 02:26am

On the ESPN main tourney page, the national leader has THIS EXACT FINAL FOUR!

If VCU wins this guy becomes a cult hero.

There are several others that are close and have three of the four (VCU being the obvious omission).

There are three astronauts, a blonde, a brunette, and a redhead. The brunette astronaut is bragging to the others that she, and the redhead astronaut, were the first two women to land on the Moon. Not to be outdone, the blonde astronaut says that she will be the first to land on the Sun. The brunette, and the redhead, both respond by saying , "You can't land on the Sun, its too hot." The blonde astronaut responds by saying, "I'm going to land at night."

I saw Calhoun coach a couple of times at Vermont when he was still at Northeastern and Reggie Lewis was playing. And I played wreck ball with a guy who played at Kentucky in the late 70s for Joe B. Hall. That said, I am rooting for the other guys.

Since UConn made the finals, I'll finish no lower than #4 this yr in our pool.

Hoorah! Not bad with all those upsets!!

The ESPN champ (real $) comes down to two folks that have the title game correctly with each picking a different team. We will have an unquestioned winner without a tie breaker!

Most importantly though, I won my pool at the house.....still negotiating my winnings with my wife! ;)
