I don't disagree at all that this play is legal, based upon the case study. But as I stated in another thread, I think the reasoning is bad. The definition of a try says <i>nothing</i> regarding the ball contacting the backboard equalling an attempt at a score.

I won't whistle it, but I don't think the rule is correct.
