I had a funny AP situation the other night, Red taps the opening jump & white obtains the ball. Start of the 2nd Q as I point in reds direction, the "captain" of white comes over to inform me that I'm going the wrong way. He sarcastically said red clearly won the tip because their center is 6'8 & ours is 6'2".

I tell him its about who gets possession after the tap not who taps the ball.
It only took him an entire season to learn this

Things like this are why I strongly prefer possession arrows that are on the table and point towards a basket, rather then ones on the scoreboard that point toward "home" and "guest". Less confusion for everybody, especially in multi-game tournament or rec league scenarios.

Heck, most of the time in rec league games, if the score is close I'll have to venture over to the table in the waning moments and ask who is ahead, because I have no idea which team is considered the "home" team for that particular game.

Not only should you prefer it, it's required. (And, I make sure *something* at the table is used as an arrow -- a shoe, a water bottle, ...)

If the score is close, why do you care?

So that you don't do something stupid, like make a call that would help send the game into OT.

Rule 1-16:

A visible display shall be located at the scorer’s and timer’s table to indicate team possession for the alternating-possession procedure.

If the score is close, why do you care?
You forgot one.

Actually, he forgot this one, too.

Cell phone, pen, pencil, belt buckle, ballcap, extra scorebook, clipboard, stuffed animal, a shop made arrow, a shop made AP lightbox, (For adult leagues only) a s*x toy, hairbrush, an old bowling pin, video game controller (wife's idea), mp3 player, walking cane, medication bottle, any woodwind, drumstick, ketchup/mustard bottle (wife's idea)....

Hmmm....I've done the pencil one...use the pointy end as the arrow. Had to do this during summer league. My little Tortiseshell kitty that rarely moves would be a good possession arrow. She'd just watch the game & still not move. She snuck in the back of my truck once & went to a show w/ me, even w/ rain & snow, plus a 4 hr. drive I didn't know she was there. She stayed in the same spot the whole time.

Mainly so I know which team will possibly be in "foul to stop the clock" mode.

As a bonus, for the youth rec league that I work, they have a mandated "no overtime" policy.
The adult league does have overtime, but it's a single 2-minute OT with a "next point wins" policy if still tied after the OT period.

Sounds like Mark Padgett's personal policy.

Hey. Somebody's got to call him out on this. He knows that he's just kidding. We know that he's just kidding. The problem is that others besides officials read this Forum, players, coaches, and fanboys, and they may not think that he's kidding. I very much doubt that there are many officials, including those that post on this Forum, including Mark Padgett, that have a get in, get out, get paid, attitude.
