Long Sleeve Undershirt

I don't have my book handy. Can someone remind me the restrictions on undershirts? BV game Friday night, starting guard had an undershirt on that had sleeves down to the wrists. My partner asked him "is that for a medical reason?" and he replied "yes" with a wink. Away we went. Refresh me on the rules if you can.

They gotta be the same length. Then ya get in to the "fraying" vs not, but I don't see much of that.

Section 3-5, Art 5.

Perfectly legal, whether for medical purposes or not. As long as the sleeves are the same length, the shirt is legal.

We had a very senior official make a VB player take his LS undershirt off this yr. Man, I would have hated to have gone back to that school later.......

NCAA rules prohibit it, but it isn't enforced.

Thanks guys, I was thinking the same thing (as long as their the same length) but wasn't confident enough to call my partner off when he brought it up to me. I will bring it up to him next time I see him.

We had to have a girl in a JV game last week remove her long sleeve undershirt. It was a black Under Armour shirt with a white pinstripe from the shoulders down to the wrists, "Under Armour" written in white on the biceps, and the "flywire" design on a large part of each arm. Some of her teammates in that game and some of their varsity players wore plain black undershirts that were long sleeve as well.

In the NCAAW you must have a wavier for from the NCAA to wear a long sleeve shirt.

I asked a buddy of mine who has friends at the NF and the reason they are allowed to wear long sleeve shirts are that in states like Utah, Montana, N Dakota and so on some of the gyms are really cold and the kids have to wear them to stay warm...no joke.

Lining Up at the Confessional

Hi, my name is . . .
I erred when, prior to a frosh game earlier this year, I compelled a player to remove his long-sleeve shirt from under his jersey.
When I got to the lockerroom at halftime I consulted the book and realized my error and I hereby promise not to do that again.
He did, however, look kinda ridiculous with a long sleeved shirt under his jersey. I think he played better without it. But after all, it wasn't my call to make.
There. I feel better.

I hope that he didn't remove his jersey within the visual confines of the playing area.

Maybe he did one of those nifty "take off the undergarment without taking off the shirt" trick. ;)
