Rec. Youth Tournee my 2 favorite quotes

1st game of the day close game all the way, partner and I worked it hard.

After game the a spectator from losing team approaches me and says "You and your partner could not have been anymore obviously biased against our team." Followed by "That was the biggest bunch of bullsh!t"

Insult me and question my integrity??? I told her to leave the building immediately and summoned gym-supervisor (game mgmnt) and they escorted her out. These teams play multiple games in a 2 day tournee and she was not allowed back for the rest of the games. She attempted to attend a later game and was told she was trespassing if she did not leave. Buh-bye.
-----------------------------------

Later game. Last few seconds of OT, tie game. Team A gets it in and as A1 attempts the mid-court hail-mary to win B1 nails him. I call the foul and B-Coach almost has an aneurysm. A1 goes to the line for 3 free-throws with .2 seconds on the clock. B-coach ices him with timeouts in between each shot but he still sinks 2 of 3. On the inbound B gets it in and time expires. A wins.

B-Coach says to me "HOW DO YOU CALL THAT FOUL???"

(Not how could you call that a foul?, not how is that a shooting foul?)

He wasn't questioning the foul itself, just why I would call it!!! I guess he felt officials should allow a game to go into another OT rather than call em as we see em. I gave him the "Foul in the 1st minute is a foul in the last minute" speech and when he groaned I followed up with "You said it yourself. How could I call that "FOUL".:D

Reminds me of the AAU game I did once back in Iowa. Mom comes up to us after the game asking for our names so she can report us to AAU. I referred her to the tournament director while my partner attempted to engage.

"Lady, have you even seen a rule book?"

"My brother used to play for the Celtics. I know the rules. And I know racism when I see it."

At this point I rolled my eyes and walked away with my partner. The exact reason why even at AAU games ("especially at AAU games") we need to have a hospitality room to keep our stuff.

A few years ago at a youth rec tournament (The last one I did), we finish a 4th grade boys game. The losing team's sportsmanship among the parents was pitiful, and I'm pretty sure the family tree didn't branch with several of them. We finish the game and as we're standing in front of the table to start the next game, a mom from this team comes across the court and accuses me of "Flipping off our players on the court". I ask her how exactly I accomplished this in front of a gym full of parents, and if any of them saw it. Of course she had no idea and none of them saw it because it didn't happen. (She said a player told her) The tournament directors escorted her out.

In another game later that day a dad walked up behind the table after the game to tell us how we screwed them...blah...blah...blah. I just told him to take a hike and ignored him.

That was the only and last rec tournament I'll be doing.

"Like this, coach. First, I hold up my hand in a fist while I blow my whistle. Then I state the color of your team's jersey, then the number of the player who committed the foul while I signal his number to the table with my hands, then I give the mechanic for the type of foul, then I indicate the resulting consequence of the foul. Did you follow that, or should I repeat it?"

NICE! :D

(with the proper amount of air pressure put through my whistle ....) (law of physics coach)

I did have a woman from the crowd approach after the later game who said "I am not with either team, just an unbiased observer. Wanted to tell you that was not only the right call, but you called this game consistently from start to finish."

I told her "I know it was the right call, and thank you for acknowledging it."

Had a hot, single mom comes out of the bleachers yesterday and asked me, "Can I get your phone number? You're the most handsome official I've ever seen." Wait a minute? Didn't happen. I think I dreamed that last night after reading these posts?

+1

(I knew we'd agree on something sooner or later, Snaq.)

Here's my fave from a youth tournament: Point guard A1 holds the ball near the division line, and B2 D's up on him. A1 pushes B2 back with his elbow, giving me the easy player control foul.

Aghast Coach A: "He was just trying to clear him out!"

(The same coach later gave me a "you do NOT make that call at the end of the game" on a intentional foul, a bear hug.)

After a 12U AAU game, a little old grandpa guy and his wife come up to me and he says, "Nice job!"
I respond, "Thank, you, sir."
Grandpa, "I used to ref . . .butI had enough sense to quit before I went blind . . ."
His wife looked like she wanted to die, as she pulled him toward the door.
I smiled and said, "Sir, you need to go embarrass your wife somewhere else!":)

I'm sure that a updated version of vBulletin® Version 3.8.0 can program posts on the the Forum so that, "hot single mom", is automatically replaced by, "h** s***** m**".
