Senior Night

Playoffs start next week. I have had several senior nights the past week. As the home team is winning by 20 with 1 min or so left, the home coach starts subbing one at a time for his seniors. As the standing ovations occur, one of the departing seniors drops down and does a push up as he kisses the mascot in the center of the court and runs off the floor. The visiting coach goes crazy, protesting that it is unsportsman-like conduct. Should we have done anything about this?

Was it intended to generate ill will towards the opponent?
Was it disrespectful to an official?
Was it unsportsmanlike?
Was it taunting?

Seems to me like the answer to all four of those is "no", but I wasn't there.

I've got nothing. IMO he's not directing it toward opponent as described and as long as it doesn't delay the restart (25 pushups, say) I'm okay with showing school pride.

I wouldn't have anything here either.

The visiting coach needs to get a life.

Yes, you should have told the visiting coach to STFU (in PC officiating terms, of course)

Adam Fri Feb 11, 2011 11:38am

If he really "goes crazy" and won't drop it quickly, might be a T on the visiting coach.

Absent any sort of precise directive to get the player for this, I've got nothing.

Bad Zebra Fri Feb 11, 2011 11:43am

Same as everyone else to this point...I've got nothing. But I gotta say kissing the mascot at midcourt of a dirty gym floor seems kinda bizzare. What state did this take place in? You gotta be REEEEALLLY into the game to do that.

JugglingReferee Fri Feb 11, 2011 11:48am

That's nothing but great school pride.

My IT background has turned me into the go-to guy for solving friends/family/etc problems. I've set up so many filters, firewalls etc, and found weird stuff on people's PCs, that I've thought about additional hazard pay.

I'm sure there is. If in doubt, consult Rule 34 of the Internet.

Years ago, I was the new guy in a factory and was sent on the proverbial wild-goose chase. I'll bank your "Rule 34" as "what not to google". :p

Not a fetish; just a normal teenage boy.

Rule 34 - If it exists, there's porn of it on the internet.

An absolute.

Also I wouldn't dream of T'ing this up. Visiting coach can rant his way all the way to a T for himself.

dilbert1701 Fri Feb 11, 2011 02:01pm

I have never seen a high school do this but I know kissing the logo at midcourt is now a tradition at Michigan State, student may have heard about that and stolen the idea.

DesMoines Fri Feb 11, 2011 04:26pm

Kissing the mascot???
