Season Finale

Something for everyone. Player for visitors gets his 3rd foul early in the 2nd quarter & doesn't like it. So, he gets his fourth. He doesn't wait for a sub, but leaves the court in disgust, so he gets his fifth. His coach, who is also his father, [are we surprised?] starts screaming about the foul count being 9-1. It then was 10-1. Of course, 5 of 'em were as a result of the acorn not falling far from the tree. Opponents sink 4 of 6 to tie the score. Not much happens the rest of the half and it is a 2 point game at the break.

2nd half was back & forth then the home team [the higher seed] took a 3 point lead with about 12 seconds left. Visitors then asked for a time out with about 6 seconds left at mid-court. They got the ball inbounds and a return pass to the inbounder goes for a good 3 from the deep corner at the horn.

In the OT, it appeared that home was in control, winding down the clock, then a steal and a kid gets fouled and makes the 3 point play to put visitors up by 1 with 9 seconds left in OT. Home gets it across mid-court and gets a timeout with 4 seconds left. No pressure on the inbounder so they get it in and a return pass to the inbounder, who heaves up a 3 from 8 ft beyond the arc with a second left. Good basket and higher seed advances with a 2 point win at the horn.

Gotta love the game.

Also gotta wonder how coach and his johnny-apple-seed would have felt if they lost by a small margin, say a couple of Technical free throws? :)

WOw, sounds like a great game! Too bad the visitors lost, a good lesson could have been taught!

My last HS game of the season ended on an 81-37 beat down. Easy game to call.

My most memorable moment. Late in the game one of the V (losing team) players is going to the line on the third consecutive trip down floor. She is 0 for 4 and her shots are not close. I'm T. My P bounces her the ball and the coach yells, "Just throw it underhand!" Don't know if she practices that way or not, but it certainly couldn't have hurt!

Oh yeah, 0 for 6.....and no, she didn't shoot underhand.

And the HS season slowly fades into the distance for me....... :(

Did the V coach say anything after the game?

Didn't they lose by a small margin?

I wasn't near his bench, although I was trail tableside and administered the throw-in. Locker room was at home end of the court. So, if he said anything, I didn't hear it. They stayed for half of the nightcap, though.

Had my last regular season contest last night. G/B doubleheader, and both competitive, relatively well played games. Coaches coached (for the most part), players played, officials officiated (how well is up for debate, but we think it went pretty well).

In the boys game, the top 5 ranked visiting team was upset in overtime. Great fun, visiting coach had a couple questions for us but didn't let his players even begin to pout about a call, and coached them hard throughout. Similar from the home bench.

Good way to end the season. Hear about potential playoff assignments tomorrow.

Great. I am not expecting anything else, barring injury or illness. But, I am pleased with the season.

Wouldn't have mattered, it would have been the ref's fault they lost the game. :D

In Florida, I believe it's due to our school year ending in early May. Tough to fit ALL sports in before the last day of school, so they start 'em early. Softball pre-season has already started here...most of the country still has snow on the diamond.

Our boys basketball championships end on 3/5.

NICE! :D

Also gotta love when coach gets whacked and says "Just because you have it out for me, don't penalize my players yada-yada!"

"Hey coach, thats why my partner(s) and I are taking your whole team out for ice cream. We think putting up with you, we have ALL earned it."

Same thing here, except the part about tournament games.

Ended with a Thud!

Final game of the year. H is third best team in league, V is near the bottom.

V has 7 players. Coach tells us, three of his starters aren't there - one is sick, two are on college visits......uh oh!

End of first half, 58-11. Final score 93-16. ARGH! Easy game to call. Barely broke a sweat. GIGDGO.

Guy who ran Concession Stand for H was a baseball ump with one of my P's. Brought us pizza after the game - Nice! :D

Good thing they took their foot off the gas.

At one point, the V coach said to me during a FT, "Sorry you have to be here to see this."

I told him I admired his team for their sportsmanship, attitude, and hustle - good kids. But, it was the worst BEAT DOWN I can remember reffing!
