A Pennsylvania Coach Tue Feb 08, 2011 11:26am

I am an overtime magnet.

In my first 80 games this year I had no OT. But in the last 18 games--five OT games and two others go down to the last shot!

Freshman boys (Jan 28): home makes 2 FT with 10 seconds left to tie game, and breakaway layup with 5 seconds left in OT to win 60-58.

JV boys (Jan 28): home makes halfcourt shot to force OT, misses two shots at end of OT to lose, 73-72.

JV boys (Jan 31): home scores with 2 seconds left to force OT, makes three with 10 seconds left in OT to win, 54-51. Loser of this game was same team that lost the previous game--safe to say I'm not on that coach's Christmas card list! :p

JV boys (Feb 3): home misses 2 FT with 3 seconds left and loses 32-31.

Freshman boys (Feb 4): home makes 3 with 3 seconds left to tie, visitors run a great inbounds play but blow wide-open layup at OT horn to lose 46-45.

JV boys (Feb 4): home misses two shots at end of regulation to lose 41-39.

JV boys (Feb 7): visitors score on a stick-back at horn to force OT (29-29). Scoreless first OT (29-29). Visitors make a three with 5 seconds left to tie game at end of second OT (34-34). Home holds for almost two minutes for last shot in third OT but lose ball with 5 seconds left (36-36). Visitors miss 30-footer. In fourth OT, visitors turn the ball over a bunch and home makes several FTs to win, 43-36. Nothing really controversial at any time. Home coach wanted a foul when they lost the ball late in the third OT because "it went up" so it had to be a foul, according to him, when the defense slapped it away. After that OT, the visiting scorekeeper told me she could "hold it" for one more OT then she had to go to the restroom!

Keep it to yourself. Other officials may block you. :D

Don't expect to get assigned to any competitive games in Oregon.

Last night in our rec league, we had 8 games. 3 went into overtime. 1 went to the second overtime, which is sudden death, first 2 point lead wins.

I read this as your assignor having sufficient confidence in you to put you on games he expects to be close.

We actually did. It used to be: Half a quarter, then one minute, then sudden death. We eliminated the one minute.

It is easier to bait him with the "First Rule" reference.

I don't mean your rule on the length of overtimes, I mean on allowing them in the first place.

Snake Bitten ...

At Sunday's meeting our interpreter pointed out an official who had a four overtime game, followed by a single overtime game, followed by another single overtime game. Everbody seated near said official immediately changed their seats.

No overtime during regular season.

It's a tie!

Which means:

Everybody involved in this game goes home pissed.
