Yup. So yes, you should have a reset, because the defensive team will be getting the ball after the violation.

Why? The shot clock is there to ensure that a try is put "on goal". Why reward a team for failing to do that?

More specifically, any ball that strikes the basket ring, from the playing court, of the team in possession of the ball.

One could argue that it would lead to greater consistently. But in reality, this isn't an issue that needs to be addressed by a rule change.
