Snow cancellation?
Massive snowstorm hitting the area this afternoon, pretty much every school is canceled (including my college and the school I'm scheduled to work at this afternoon).
Left a message asking for someone to call me to confirm the games were off, but I doubt that will happen. Can I assume that since school is canceled and the roads are/will be treacherous that there will be no games? |
Best person to call is your assignor.
|
Gotta love the Arbiter in situations like this!
My doubleheader is cancelled tonight & I got the email directly to my phone yesterday afternoon. |

I absolutely love modern technology for this reason. Woke up to a text message saying my kids' school is cancelled today. |

If it is canceled you will be paid (assuming you weren't notified) YMMV |

A first for me here. I was just called to confirm that the game was still on tonight. This is the only school in my area that does not have a policy that all activities are automatically cancelled when school is closed.
Oh well - good for me! Short drive and dinner waiting when I get home!!:) |

Different areas have different policies. Here, it's up to the A.D. to contact the officials of postponements, but sometimes, the A.D.s contact the assignor, who then contacts us. Typically, there's no rule that says you can't call and check for yourself.
By the way, most frequently, these games are postponed, not cancelled. Big difference. |

My games just got canceled because of bad weather. Mind you I live in Houston and we are getting an arctic blast, temps are suppose to drop into the 20's.
I originally from NYC, like a co-worker of mine just said, are they playing basketball outside? Unbelievable. |

911 ...
We've been encouraged to call the police department. They're probably going to send a officer, for security, to the site, so they should know if the game is on, or off. Pesonally, I've never done this. The police have more importnat calls to take, especially during a snowstorm.
I once traveled twenty miles to a game during a snowstorm. Didn't get a call from my assigner, or the school. Couldn't get in touch with the school, my partner, or my assigner (olden days before cell phones). Took me over an hour to get to the game. The game was cancelled, but nobody contacted the cheerleadng coach, or the police officer, who I met in the parking lot. The officer confirmed the cancellation over his radio. |

I got an email from one of my assignors just a few minutes ago. All games for that conference tonight are cancelled, which means my night just became a lot more open. I don't think it'll be my last assignment cancelled tonight. I'm in suburban Chicago and they're talking almost 2 feet of snow.
|
And now for something completely different

Good luck! |

Just did my driveway and carved out the mailboxes so the mailman doesn't give birth to a canary if he has to stretch his arm more than 2 inches out the car window. |
I lost a JV/V girls date last night, a JV Boys (three whistle) game tonight, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to lose my JC Women's game tomorrow night. What a crappy week for the STL area!
I just hope I get to keep the rest of my games later on this week! |
Lost a GJV/GV combo tonight. Not much snow, just cold. ( Supposed to hit -20 overnight).

Well, unless you were counting on those to make your minimum requirement for post-season. |

Schools are open. Game on tonight! Game on tonight! Last night's cancellation already rescheduled for Sat! Oh yeah - your Federal Govt is open too. |

I mentioned before that, last week, I drove 40 miles to a game, only to find it had been postponed. We weren't notified.
It was moved to tomorrow night, and I got the assignment again, with the same partner. It just got postponed again. |

This morning will be a mess. I'm about to try to move the mountain of snow we have out front. Wednesday's an off day for HS sports in this area. Good thing. |
I've lost last night and tonight.

Same here & off tomorrow
|
I was already off for tonight and tomorrow. Have a game Friday and one Tuesday and then the season is done.

Obviously my game last night was canceled and moved to tomorrow. We will see if that goes over as the game is scheduled for 5:30 instead of the 7:00 or 7:30 usual start time.
Peace |
Jeff we're supposed to get more snow, I think...except this time it'll be two inches instead of two feet

Which school district? I have games tomorrow, Friday and Saturday and haven't heard a peep about cancellations. It wouldn't surprise me if Friday got canceled considering it is supposed to snow that day. |

Here's a photo of my backyard. Don't know where these odd birds came from. Never seen them before. Usually we just see chickadees, blue jays, and cardinals. http://ts1.mm.bing.net/images/thumbn...27a0&index=ch1 |
Just had tomorrow cancelled. Three nights in a row cancelled because of this blizzard. Not all bad though, would have had a long drive tonight, and a long-ish one tomorrow. Can't say I don't mind saving the gas.
|
My games for tomorrow were canceled. Looks like Friday will be a wash but Saturday is still on.

Good luck to all you guys losing games. Hope you get some makeups......
Last year's snow-mageddon in the DC area cost me ~15 games I never got back - and your situation is much worse. Be safe all. |

I lost two earlier in January. I've lost Tuesday and Thursday already this week. Friday's game is at a school in the middle of the biggest city around, so hopefully they end up playing.

Visiting school has canceled and the home school has a 2 hour delay tonight. Sounds like we'll cancel since the visiting school will probably not send any buses out. I'll end up calling the school in a couple of hours.
My kid's school didn't delay (2 hours) until 7AM -- by then my daughter was up. She could've used the extra sleep. Drifts on rural roads -- I wonder if they will cancel in the end -- apparently people are snowed in. I'm OK with it. I'm enjoying this mid-season break. |
I was just notified of my 3rd cancellation this week. All have been re-scheduled on dates where I'm unavailable. It's a bummer considering we only have a couple of weeks left until the end of the season.
|
My Friday games have just been canned as well. I'll have to tide myself over on the four Jr High games I have on Saturday.
|
Holding out hope that Friday's games are still on. The school has been closed the last two days so I haven't been able to get a hold of anyone to find out.
|
I have had 3 Boys JV/Varsity double headers and 1 Varsity Boys game posponed this week (So far). I have had 4 previous dates posponed due to bad weather. I hope my Varsity girls game on Friday gets played.
|
Just got a call from my assignor asking if I could get to tomorrow night's GV/BV games for a 4:30 Start time instead of 6:30. It is a 1hr, 50min. commute. When I asked why, I was told that there is supposed to be an ice storm there later in the evening and they wanted to get the game in before it hits. So it is OK for me to potentially get stuck in the storm while commuting, without any travel pay, so the teams can get their game and get to their local homes?:(
I brought this to the attention of the assignor. His only response was "I don't have anyone to replace you, I would consider it a favor to Me if you will re-accept the game." Districts start in 10 days, I hope He remembers the favor. |
I Hope He Doesn't Bother My Birdfeeder ...
Here's another photo of my backyard. We do have black bears here in town. This one must be an albino.

He'd damnwell better remember the people that help him out when he's stuck. If he doesn't, he ain't gonna that that help from them in the future. And that's strictly on him, no one else. |

Just got my Saturday games whacked and lost six tournament games next week. Ouch. :(

As I recall, one of our problems with so many cancellations last yr came down to then trying to squeeze the remainder of the season into a few short weeks just before playoff time. Man were we getting busy! Assignor was going nuts!! Couldn't happen though, so they lopped off the end of the season and moved everyone into playoffs. |
