Entertaining Story for you guys

This happened to some folks in my association last Friday.

Home team is playing with an interim coach who took over mid-season after the HC abruptly resigned due to family health issues. "Star" player was tossed from the team due to attitude problems and 3 of her friends followed her out the door in a show solidarity/stupidity. Thus, you can see the Home team is just trying to get through the season and start rebuilding, I don't believe they have won a game in District play.

So, Friday night they are getting drilled at home. A home fan is wearing the new HC out over his play calling, sub-management and his generally abilities as a coach. So finally the HC politely (he is a class-act I've worked for many times) asks the fan to stop assisting him and let him perform his coachly duties. Of course the fine gentleman feels that he has a right to act however and say whatever he chooses, because as all of us know when you walk into a sports arena/gym and sense of common decency, humanity and civility is checked at the door and you are free to act like the true jack-wagon you really are.

Accordingly so, the HC asks a security officer to remove said gentleman and here's where it gets fun. Feeling his man-hood and rights as an American were being challenged he refused to comply with Jane Law as she tried to remove him. The visiting teams traveling security officer offered his assistance and a tussle ensued. All 3 involved end up falling down the bleachers and the gentleman was removed from the gym where he continued to voice his concerns in a less than civil manner. Apparently he did not take kindly to being asked to get on the ground by the officers and was warned if his struggles continued he would be tased as the situation had become quite dangerous.....

In the end, they zapped his @$$ and hauled him to the pokey! Adminstrators conferred and decided to terminate the game as it was clearly getting hostile in the gym and the game was obviously settled. Yet, the visiting coach voiced her concern to early termination due to the fact that she "wanted to score 100 on them."

P.S. The visiting JV coach had been tossed in the previous game.

Happy Monday fellas!

wow...just wow. thanks for sharing that. some colleagues and i were talking just this last weekend how much the sportsmanship levels have changed since we played. (70's and 80's)

i'm relatively new to ref'ng (3rd year), and have been appalled at the things that have said to me by fans. just this last weekend i had a jv game for a AA school (the largest school size in my state), and one of the kids was cubic...5' 8 or so, and 300 pounds...very nice kid. i called him for two fouls. as i was leaving the venue he and his mom were standing there, and as i passed by his mother said,"i don't know why the refs pick on the big kids."

/also, i love the term "jack-wagon"

Had a coach complain to me on Sunday that there is "no way" his kid could have fouled B1. "For God's sake - he (B1) outweighs Johnny by at least 140 pounds!"

lol......what did you say back to the coach?

Was working a game few weeks ago...I make an easy out of bounds call. Player stepped on the line, no big deal. As I trot down court, a fan yells..."23 YOU'RE NOT WORTH THE HAIR YOU STILL GOT!" I was the only #23 still on court and I'm getting a shiny spot. I thought it was hilarious, but got me to thinking, would this guy say something like that to a man on the street he didn't know? Why does he think its ok because I'm wearing a referee jersey? Sad...

nice.....i'm getting to the point where i am able to do this. i used to think that long-winded explanations would help a volatile situation. the learning curve is finally starting to make sense.

Because you're in charge, and you're getting in the way of his team's victory. The nerve of you.

You're in good company. On the road, fans used to yell this at Michael Jordan.

I had a coach tell me I had to give a warning before I tossed his player out of the game. I was really confused because I thought my partners warning the palyer in the first half and my issuing the player his first T in the middle of the 2nd half was really warning enough that the player should stop the c__P. I thought wrong!

Funny the rules we learn from coaches. They must get a different book than we do.
