3 Seconds question?
Offensive player without the ball in lane for 2 seconds... then receives ball on a pass... how much time does he have left? (NFHS)
|
If he moves immediately to try for goal, the count is suspended. (stopped at 2)
But when the move is over, if he doesn't shoot, he has one second left to get out. |
If he receives the pass and dribbles in or move in to immediately go for a shot then allowances are made for the player and a violation should not be called. It's up to the official to determine if the player is doing either of the above. If he's been in two seconds, does the above actions but there isn't a try, then a three second violation is correct by rule.

Thanks for keeping me honest.
I Have always called it this way too. Just saw a post on a different forum someone stated that if he is in key for 2, catches a pass, he gets a new 3 seconds count. Had never heard of this thought it had to be wrong, just wanted some back up. Thanks all.
And remember... I youth basketball coach can count to 3 FASTER than anyone on the planet. :D |
I'd tell that person to look at 9-7-3 cause he's dead wrong.
