Continuation question

I think we've discussed this before, possibly even recently, but since my so-called brain is disfunctional, I need to ask again. It has to do with the ruling on whether a shot counts or not at the horn to end a period. Must the ball be already out of the shooter's hand, or do you use the same theory of continuation (the shooter has begun the continuous movement that usually leads to a shot) so if he is "in the act of shooting" and the ball is still in his hands when the horn goes off, the basket would count if the ball goes in? Rule reference please. Thanks. Oh yeah - FED rules.

Rule 6-1-6, and EXCEPTION a which follows below 6-1-9

The ball must be out of the hand before the horn sounds.

You need to get back on your meds.

Continuation deals with whether a basket counts or not after a foul is called.

Also, follow BktBallRef's advice. This is a pretty basic question.

Should that be 6-1-6 and 6-1-9 Exception a?

Correct. And Corrected.

7-1 at top of page on downloaded version, but didn't page back to see that this was still under Rule 6. Aduh me.

The other thing to note is 4-11-1:
Continuous Motion: ... has no significance unless there is a foul by a defensive player during the interval....
