Question

I have been in Korea for the entire 99/00 season and only called mens/womens NCAA rules ball. They started off the season with the lead administering the 1st of multiple free throws but later changed back to the center(calling official) administering the 1st one. Maybe I missed something during my tour here in Korea in regards to HS rules/mechanics on that situation. Somebody shed light on this please.

NFHS: Trail (2-person) or Center comes in to signal # of throws ONLY, lead adminsiters ball.

NCAA: T or C administers 1st throw, L subsequent throws.

I've been told, however, that the NFHS mechanic will change again within the next two years...do they do this to just keep us on our toes?

In some areas, L does everything. T or C just confirm # of throws to L and and L administers.Depends on how your association wants it done.

His area mainly consisted of Pyontaek(Camp Humphreys) and might I add Mr Kim impressed me with his mechanics and knowledge of the game. I asked him about the KBL and why he wasn't calling there and replied it was too political. I have a friend who calls up there and he tells me it's pure entertainment. I said, so that's why they allow all of that contact. It's a pretty exciting league but the refs need to clean up the hard fouls. By the way what did you think of the one sided called
game between Fla/NC?

Korea. Mr. Kim. I thought you were making a joke. I would think there are a lot of Mr. Kims that officiate.

Now that you mentioned that I'm laughing myself but there is only ONE Mr. Kim that is a standout official. Infact in my opinion he would be an outstanding D1 official.

Bart, yes I knew that when I made that post it would bring a chuckle from people who have never officiated there.

As RonJay42 stated, this Mr. Kim was (is) an outstanding official whom I worked with back in 1989.

Keep on posting!
