Use Your Pink Whistles This Week ...

We're donating 25% of a game fee to the American Cancer Society. My father died after a short battle with leukemia, so I'll be thinking about him when I work games this week.

Our Association has distributed the pink whistles and we've briefly talked about using them in Feb, but I haven't received the exact dates yet.

Good luck this week Billy, I know it'll be tough.

Thanks. Actually it will not be tough at all, it will be great. I'm past the grieving stage, and have moved onto the stage where I enjoy thinking about my Dad's life, not his death. I've got a million stories. Don't get me started.

The next home game here is going to be "Breast Cancer Awareness Night" during the Girls' V game. The team is supposed to be wearing some special uniforms.

I was joking with the C-Squad coach that a pink ball should be used as game ball.

Have you verified with your local association(s) that the pink whistles have been authorized by your state association? I remember hearing this past football season about some officials that decided to use pink whistles were removeed from post-season assignments (or some such punishment) for using the pink whistles without the state association approving it prior to their use. I am all for this worthy cause but would hate to see fellow officials punished for trying to do good!

That happened up here in Washington.

However they were not penalized.

No, that did not happen. They did use pink whistles without the state officials' association's approval but they were not penalized.

Thanks for the follow-up chseagle. The last I read on it was that they were going to be penalized... glad to hear they weren't!

There are however several that think Todd Stordahl, WOA Commissioner, needs to be removed/resign due to this incident.

"Several?" I could probably find "several" that think I should retire.

Which means nothing.

BTW, nice edit after I first posted they were not penalized.

That was just off the comments from the articles about the incident, basically layfolk that know little about the inner workings.

I do what my Association tells me. When I get the email that this is pink whistle week, I'll use it. That is, if all my P's have theirs (which they didn't last yr.) :o

Cool ...

We are authorized to use pink whistles this week - as long as all officials have them for the game. I have games three nights this week - will see if I actually get to use it. Many of our officials refuse to use one for some reason.
