Two Firsts For Me

Doing 4 x 14UB Rec Ball games today. "Semi-competitive" league (depends what team your on).

I'm one of the more senior officials and they usually match me up with a semi-seasoned official (a kid willing to blow his whistle) and a relative newbie. Game three and I'm on my second set of partners.

Mid 1st half, my junior partner - TWEEEET, traveling. I watch him and something is just not right. Later in the half, same partner, TWEEEET, traveling. Huh? His hand signal is backward! He is moving his arms towards him as opposed to away from him. I've never seen that before. I talked to him about it and from then on, every time he called a foul, he would start one way and then do it correctly. It was funny! Anyone else ever seen that one?

Also, in that game a player goes to the line for two and as he's at the line he gets heckled by the League Director (LD) from the other end of the gym! Again, me. So, the LD is coaching the next game and I said coach, I've never seen a LD heckle a shooter. He told me he had that kid on his team for three yrs already and this yr he just missed him in the draft this year. He said it was a friendly jab - and was talking to the kids mom at the time....... But, a League Director? Sportsmanship? Again, a first for me.

Can't wait until next week......

This would be correct in Australia.

Actually the arm on the bottom would be moving away from him.

Does you toilet paper in your house come off the roll from the bottom, or off the top?

Yeah, usually the first few weeks to give the kids some experience. Then the league dials back a bit (runs out of $) and goes to pretty much two man with the better officials.

I asked him if he was from "down under."

And he signaled for a T with his pinkies, right? Except at 4 pm when he probably holds the signal high in the air.

I know more about astrophysics than I do about NCAA signals, but isn't this the signal for a "substitute timeout"?

IF it's at about head level, not torso level.

Two More Firsts

Interesting season.....

Snow makeup games tonight - B13U Rec.

Young man comes out to start the game wearing a wrestling-type soft headset. Uh coach? He just had a skin graft done to his ear. Needs to wear it for two weeks.....

I let my P do the jump.

He tosses and it is simultaneously touched by A1/B1 and is hit straight down the Division Line out of bounds. TWEET. Let's re-jump.

He tosses it again and it is simultaneously touched by A1/B1 and is hit straight down the Division Line again and out of bounds in almost the exact same spot. TWEET. Let's re-jump.

Ok, that's two.

I recommended an A and B player stand where the ball went out twice in a row. Coaches and parents got a chuckle. :p

Never seen it before......

And?

Was it approved by the state as per rule 3-5-3EXCEPTION(a)?

It's Rec Ball and was approved by the League Director - who was present for duty.

Had to be strapped on pretty tight and we ensured there were no loose ends - that's all we did to ensure the safety of others.

Twas certainly odd.

Perhaps he is dyslexic and no, I'm not kidding. Brother-in-law is dyslexic and does some things backward. That's how he see's it. I have laughed at some of the things he does many times as it looks so awkward and well .... funny. If you tell him - he tries to change - but to him changing feels awkward and abnormal.
