not hitting the rim
Does anyone call the violation on the first of two free-Throws if the shooter doesn't hit the rim? had a discussion with a few other officials about this the other day. Second Q. do you put your hand up on the first shot of two as center( 3 crew ) trail ( 2 crew ) or just the last one. thanks.

Also, there's no point in raising your hand on the first of two free throws. The point of raising our hand is to chop time in on a potential miss. If there's no chance the ball will remain live on a miss, then there's no reason to raise your hand. |

Just point to the rim with the other hand upraised with an open hand and then point to where the throwin will be administered. "Swirling the toilet bowl" isn't a mechanic. It is, however, a signal I use right after solving a stubborn toilet clog. It's in our company's mechanics manual. |

If the only thing that happened during the first of two or the first two of three free throws is that the attempt did not make contact with the basket ring, just let it go. Everybody knows the shot was missed and the player is no doubt is embarassed by his poor attempt.

(Shucks, JR responds at 5:52, but just before I responded at 5:52. Does this mean our discussion board needs a clock to display tenths of a second? Oh, sorry, that was a different thread from a while ago.) |
