On a missed 2nd Free throw, trail blew whistle on player in third slot his side for a lane violation.
He carefully explained that her heel, when it was raised, had violated the adjacent lane space eventhough the heel had not touched the floor.
The player rolled her eyes.
Shoot again. Basket counted. Ended as a 2-point game.

Maybe there was a wad of chewed up gum on the floor that she didn't want to step on? I've seen coaches use this as a ploy........blah....blah....blah....

This is awfully hard to visualize. Foot on floor is ok, heel comes off the floor which moves it closer to the toe in vertical space. Now heel is somehow committing a violation.

While technically correct and pretty common, I've never seen it called.

The heel committed the violation by going beyond the vertical plane of the outside edge of a lane boundary.Players do this all the time.Players also occasionaly get warned for doing this.Players do not usually get called for doing this.

bard Wed Oct 23, 2002 12:46pm

mick didn't actually say that it was his partner that did this... ;-)

But I will assume that mick was not trail!

Coach,
The toe gets placed first, with the heel in the air.
Why? ...Just is. :)

This sounds like a newbie who has not grasped the sublties of the rules.

I resemble that remark :D

Actually sounds like a jerk that grew up in Florida and is wanting to exert a "hypertechnical interpretation" of a rule. How would you like to be his kid? No gray in his world, only "black and white" (sorry, couldn't resist)

I'm with the player. I would have rolled my eyes too.
