Injuries
Just found out via X-Rays that I have narrowing joint spacing in my knee due in part to my incident last January.
Looking at information on WebMD, there's a chance of PCL injury. What types of injuries have occurred to you or that you've seen occur to others? |

Just saying......:) |
I had a torn lateral Meniscus but I treated it with Glucosamine and Chondroitin and it's been fine.
It was a small tear. |

Concerning Glucosamine/Chondroitin, I've been taking Osteo Bi-Flex Triple Strength. Unfortunately for me though, it's been getting harder for me to go up & down stairs/bleachers. |
I tore my lateral meniscus whilst I was in football 7 years ago. Had to get a X-rays and an MRI to confirm. Finally had to get a partial meniscectomy by way of arthroscopic surgery. Put me out 3 weeks. Knee only acts up occasionally. Found that doing barbell squats as definitely helped strengthen the knee.

Unbelievable.....
When I was a military instructor I was always told - at the end of your class, never say, "What are your questions." Because if you do, someone can ask, "What did you have for dinner last night?"
Hence, that is what I though of here. Quote:
Help? The correct question was always, "What are your questions pertaining to this block of instruction as I have explained it to you?" Questions? Dismissed! |

Initial findings was there was no damage & the knee popped itself back into place. Since then, periodically my left knee will pop without warning. Of course, as mentioned before, am having some trouble going up & down stairs/bleachers without support. Also am having to use a cane to walk on occasion. Before the incident, my left knee had been injured in 2 separate car accidents where contusions were the only injury. So part of what happened was that my knee had been previously weakened. |
Before all is said and done, I predict this thread will make me glad for the ignore list.

True story - A professional photographer who has done underwater work for Discovery and National Geographic lives here, locally. He arrived home from a Carolina Hurricanes game last month, prior to Christmas. As he got out of his car, he knocked over one of his dive tanks. The tank EXPLODED, blew out the wall that separated his garage from his house, and among other injuries, severed his hand above the wrist. They had to amputate his arm at the elbow. His wife, who was inside brushing her teeth, was also injured in the explosion. Incredible, huh? Makes it easy to understand how Brodie blew the shark all to hell! |
I am meaning serious injury that involves an Emergency Room run &/or numerous doctor visits to fix/correct the injury.
Losin' one's virginity is not a work/sports related injury unless you work in a strip club or brothel. |

You know, a lot of new posters find that they learn much more from reading the topics that others have psoted as opposed to starting a half dozen threads each day all by themselves. |

Can a person not be curious about similar circumstances without being read the riot act? |
Quote:
And look up "riot act," it's not really applicable here. (But don't copy and paste what you find, please.) |

Can a person not be curious as to if others have suffered similar injuries & what treatment(s) they went through? Like has been stated in another topic, am trying find out ways to prevent similar injuries from happening (aka preventing mistakes). |

After reconstructive surgery and about a year, I got back to normal. Then last summer I was dead-lifting and tweaked the knee again. After a full football season and a partial basketball/wrestling season, I've been diagnosed with additional medial meniscus tears, lateral meniscus tears, and grade 2/3 arthritis in my fibula (at the age of 34). I've been warned to cut any high impact activities (i.e. officiating). I smiled and asked my orthopedic surgeon when I should plan for my first replacement. |
1. Again (and for the final time), you're free to ask the question, but don't think you can control the responses.
2. "the riot act" isn't applicable to this situation. google it and read up, you'll learn something. |

As a runner, athlete, etc. I've had ACL injuries in both knees, Patella dislocation in one knee, hurt ankles, torn muscles & tendons, broken fingers, bone spurs, etc. I'm still up & going & don't complain. I think this a good topic, as far as to compare notes to see how we overcome our injuries to get back on the court, etc. I once lost a spike during a race & was covered in blood and torn a ACL, but still qualified for state because I didn't give up. |

I have an Orthopedic Appointment already scheduled, & have already gone through one round of PT. My primary complaints about my knee right now is the periodic popping of the knee when walking/moving the knee & the inability to normally go up & down stairs/bleachers. |

The PT I went through did help for a little bit, so my knee's better than it could be. |
overcoming injury
Ice became my friend early on as a athlete. I did 3 varsity sports in HS (Captain for XC) & did summer league Basketball. I trained for races out of HS. I went through 6 months of PT, etc. after my patella dislocation/ACL tear. I had been training for the Salt Lake Marathon at that point (I was single then). Maybe one of these days I can go back there & run it, as well as run Bloomsday. :)

Of course I'd ask your doctor before starting any of this. And if you do, I'd do a lot of research/try and find someone to teach you proper technique. As a side note, I'm a big proponent of weight lifting. Really helps with the wear and tear of the season. Especially during the off season, I'm doing heavy bench, deadlifts, squats, pullups, etc. |

I am wanting advice from others that have gone through similar circumstances, which thankfully one person has been helpful. |
Sorry I didn't mean to imply too much info. I talk my mind usually & could lie if I wanted to, I'm too honest. I was just a little upset by the comment. I had a long weekend showing my rabbits & am still a bit sore from being on my feet on concrete for about 12 hours straight.

I have more strength in my legs than I do my arms as at most that I can lift with my arms via weight training would be only about 75 lbs. |

Quickly...
Most of my injuries related to sports (R shoulder-surgery, R knee-surgery, L quad-tear-rest, numerous sprains strains of ankles/knees/R shoulder) happened with me as a participant. My one work injury, which is why I'm benched until I'm fixed, is my back.
I haven't been hurt officiating, but I've not been doing it long enough to have had it possibly happen either. P.S. I'm currrently battling daily constant pain. One is a diagnosed facial pain, the second is my back injury, and third is a semi-diagnosed L shoulder problem. |

Ahhhhhh - more insight in the "game management" heirarchy
|
Finally a solution concerning my left knee has been found thanks to X-Rays & CAT Scans, not only is there narrowing joint space in the knee but there's also a bone spur growing into one of the tendons/ligaments.
Gonna going in for arthroscopic surgery on the 14th. |
