Hoop OB on a throw in?
I do not have the rule book in front of me but have a question on whether or not the whole hoop is out of bounds on a throw in or is just the back of the backboard and supports?
|
Five sides of the backboard are inbounds. The only part that isn't is the back of the backboard. Also if the ball hits any supports, it's out of bounds. It matters not if it's during a throw-in.

Perfect! Thanks for the confirmation on that!

Who You Gonna Call ???
Mythbusters.
The front, top, sides, and bottom of the backboard are all in play. The ball cannot legally pass over a rectangular backboard from either direction. The back of a backboard is out of bounds as well as the supporting structures. |
Odd Throw Ins ???
Quote:
ART. 7 The thrown ball shall not enter the basket before it touches or is touched by another player. ART. 8 The thrown ball shall not become lodged between the backboard and ring or come to rest on the flange before it touches or is touched by another player. |
