CYO amusement

You know you were at a CYO 6th grade girls game when both teams, in the course of 24 minutes of game play:

- combine for 88 missed shots.
- combine for 82 turnovers
- combine for 37 held balls
- somehow manage to find time to score 24 points (13-11).

(Yes, this happened at one of my games today)

I also wonder if I missed a full moon overnight. In two of three games this weekend (yesterday's 8th girls and today's 8th boys), the home coach took the official scorebook in the locker room at half time. At yesterday's game, the officials simply designated me official score for the remainder of the game. Todays officials told me I was taking things too seriously

In what's supposed to be an instructional league, I guess it would be a bit too much to instruct the home team that the book has to stay at the table -- at the very least.

Must not have been a competitive grade 6 girls game.

just saying......

In what way did the officials think you were taking things too seriously? I think it's rightful that you pointed out the head coach took the book with him at halftime.

Someone actually counts and keeps track of this in 6th grade?

Well, the NCAA can legally look at kids in grade 8 now. So they really look at kids in grade 6. ;)

I did a 5th grade game this weekend. Select teams. My partner and called close to thirty travels. Didn't slow the game down because it was running clock. In another 5th grade game, coach thought we called to many travels. In my opinion and same for some coaches, call everything. Only way they learn. I ease up on the whistle for fouls though.

What about the fetus's coach?

I was the last to know...

My CYO story from Sunday.

CYO 6th Grade Boys National (lower).
I'm working solo, due to partner no-show.
Game not in doubt. Good natured game all around.

A1 in front of his bench, gets the ball dribbles, gathers the ball... then dribbles once more, then shoots.
Ball goes in.
"No shot! Illegal dribble."
HC and 2 ACs fall to the floor like a domino chain reaction.
I'm thinking WTF? Do I need to address this?

Turns out it was the kids first (almost) basket of the season.

Hell, the fetus' father is already down at Auburn selling his rights there.

Did they fall outside the coaching box? You may have had an opportunity for some T's here. :p

That's ok, the fetus will still be able to play in the Final Four.

Why ease up on whistles for fouls??

CYO? Can someone help me out on the abbreviation?

EDITED: I get it. It's Catholic Youth Organization... thanks to everyone... :)
