nasty spam going on in old message board thread

The problem is that Bob is the only mod and if he's not around, the crap doesn't get deleted. And Bob can't be expected to be here 24/7/365. And if iirc, all Bob can do is delete a post anyway. He can't get rid of or stop anybody from posting. Only the site owners like Brad can do that.

Then, what's the best way to let someone know such is being posted?

If I "miss" a post (you've seen me around and the offending post is still there), then let me know. otherwise, I read all the threads with new posts and delete the offending posts as I see them.

Well excuse me. First I didn't know you were the only mod. I understand that mick has passed away. But someone else needs designated then.

So how else would someone alert game management that the board was infiltrated by porn.

Third, the crap is still there, after two hours after your post alerting me that it was a waste of my time bumping this thread in less than an hour.

The point is, it does no good to notify me. I read this forum as often or more often than I read my email. And, if I was here to read my PMs, I'd read the forum and delete the posts.

If the posts are still there in "2 hours", then it means I'm not available to delete them *OR* to receive a notice about them.

In that case, email is fine. That is, if something offensive is still there a day or so later, it means I miised it. If it's there a minute or an hour or 4 hours after it's beenposted, it means I haven't been around to get it.

For example, I'm leaving for games in aminute. Ilikley won't be back until late tonight, and might not read the forum until tomorrow. Sending me messages this afternoon won't get the spam deleted any sooner.

The point is, I got umpteen emails reporting the spam in the "Does your association have..." thread. I know you (the generic you) don't know that someone else sent one. But, it's more inefficient to send the message than to ignore the spam for a while.

Now, most of the spam was in that old thread. I closed the thread. I hope that will stop some of this.

Are you checking the other sports, too? The same guy has posted some stuff in one (or more) of the football threads.

Okay. Since I've already told you I have several email addys for you and have no idea if one is current, I guess I'll simply ignore the porn and hope so meone else reports it.

I also hope someone has reported this guy to someone who can ban him. Even if I were to put him on my Ignore list, he's posts still show up for guests who visit this site, which does not seem like a good thing to me.

I'm pretty sure he's not a mod on all other forums.

At the top right of each post, there's an "l" in a red triangle. If you click on that, it takes you to a report form for spam, porn, etc. Whether that report goes straight to Brad Batt and how often Brad checks those reports, well, I don't know. Maybe somebody can ask Brad and give him a heads-up that we're getting more of this crap lately.

I think this might be a better way of dealing with the problem rather than going after Bob. Bob can delete but Brad can ban.

Right. Only General, Baseball, Basketball. I've offerred to Brad to help with the others, and explained to him that when I "delete as spam" the poster isn't banned, as is supposed to happen. And, I topld him about the persistence of this particular spammer.

That sends an email to me, and to othe rmods (if there are any). I don't know if it goes to Brad.

Maybe you should mention to Brad that he should make sure that they do go to him. If you aren't able to unload these jerks when deleting their posts, then Brad needs to be on top of it a heckuva lot quicker imo. Either that or give you the ability to ban 'em. Seems to me that it's a heckuva lot of work for you to delete a post and then have to e-mail Brad to dump the poster, especially when there's multi porn posts by different poster names. Just a thought.

These porn bots ruined McGriffs when they weren't dealt with. Brad has a problem and he needs to do something about it.

I think it was a little more than the postings that ruined that site. Then again it was a huge problem and these are not making this place very family friendly when they sit up for hours without anything done about them.
