Head coach wants to trade w assistant
Coach A communicates to the referee that he no longer wishes to be the speaking, head coach and would like to transfer all authority, mid quarter, to his assistant. It has nothing to do with illness or any odd ,emergency situation. How do you recommend that this situation be handled by rule? How would any previous technicals, on either or both coaches, then be handled from a bookeeping standpoint? If it is allowed, what if the assistant (who is now the head coach) wants to have the situation revert BACK to what it originally was?
Any help/thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated. |

The rules make no provision on this transfer. Some states specify that whoever attends the pre-game meeting is the Head Coach for that game.
I wouldn't allow it. Head coach doesn't have to stand / speak, but the AC is not allowed to. If coach insists, then I would just explain that, and if s/he insists, then I'd have a very short leash on the AC. A couple of Ts and both problems are gone. |

I'm not playing that game. If you do, are you going to let them switch back later in the game again?
One HC - he can talk or not. Preferably not but I never listen to AC's.

I've had rec games where they had co-coaches. "No today gentlemen. Decide who the head coach is and let the other guy do it next time."

I couldn't trade places with the head coach even if I wanted too!!! If I tried she would make me find my own way home!
You need to decide who the head coach is at the beginning. I did have a situation where a head coach was pregnant and had to leave for the locker room in the second half. BUT she informed us before teh game and said if that happened we would be 'lenient' with letting the AC stand etc. |
