Last Second shot
Setting the stage for the following clip.....Game is in overtime with about 7 seconds left. Red team just got a bucket and a foul to tie the game at 60, with a free throw to come that will give them the lead. From there I'll leave it up to you fellas to do your job of breaking it down and sharing your thoughts/advice. Thanks.

Everything looked gravy to me.

Red team's bench personnel shouldn't be standing during the FT attempt.
White team's bench personnel shouldn't be standing during the final shot attempt. Other then that, I don't see any problems. |

From what I could tell, the shot was released prior to the buzzer. None of the officials seemed to have a problem with it and one of them signaled a valid three point shot.
What exactly is your question? Did you think the shot went off late or perhaps the table didn't start the clock promptly?

Actually, two made the signal. And one held it so long it was like he was posing for a picture.

I watched the clip again this time focusing on officials, the only thing that I noticed is on the free throw, the trail official is not watching the three players that are in the backcourt because he's too close to the shooter. I was taught to hang back by the division line so I can see the remaining players if some are away from the front court during a free throw. The last varsity game I was working, my partner actually saw and called the foul on a player for kneeing his opponent right in the arse! This foul occurred behind the division line during a free throw! Great catch! I hope to see some more of your excellent videos like last year. It has been a great help to me to see what everybody else sees and hear how reffs (not time keepers) would call particular fouls, violations, etc. Good Luck! Thanks fellas. I just like reading your thoughts and comments.
When I put the last 3 seconds to a stop watch i consistently got just over 3.0 seconds, although it is hard to tell exactly when the ball is touched because of the camera panning out. In real time it seems pretty evident to me that the shot was released prior to the horn. The other thing I thought you fellas might critique was where the ball was at then the timeout was called in relation to where they inbounded the ball in at or is that even a big deal? |

Wondering who granted timeout? I hear whistle but C looks like he didn't have it, yet has arm up. That said, Trail doesn't appear to be moving to table signalling time. Game played in Utah, Clark? Last edited by fullor30; Thu Jan 13, 2011 at 02:39pm. |
