Game management should of been involved way before the "fan" rolled the ball to the other end of the court.

He kept an eye on the guy with the ball, though, who decided to not return it right away. Eventually, my partner asked for the ball and the guy rolled it slowly to the other (empty) end of the court, where it had to be retrieved by game management.

Anyhow, I'll stop there to see how others would deal with this, if at all...

Why? What did he do wrong before that?

The "fan" did not return the ball right away (aka DOG) as what should of been done.

Game Management should of seen the delay & went to get the ball before the official even asked.

The fan has nothing to do with delay of game.

But I agree that game management should address such an issue without having to be asked. Most times, they aren't paying attention to anything.

Standing there, holding the ball, when no one has asked for it, is not delaying the game. He did nothing wrong until the official asked for the ball and he decided to be an a$$.

I suppose you could have had game management give the guy a choice: Go get the ball or leave the gym.

Game management at small schools tends to be an athletic director who has more to do than be at our disposal every minute of the game. It's understood that if we need the AD, we get someone at the table to either radio the AD or find him.

My partner saw the AD in the corner and started walking towards him (I had already returned from reporting the foul). He said, "Where's the AD?" and the guy said, "Don't bother, I'm leaving" and he got up and left. Had he not, he would've been escorted out by the AD.

Hey, a polite, cooperative jerk. Gotta love it.

Probably didn't want to get booted for future games by the AD.

Perhaps where you live but not here. For example, 2A school this past Friday, both the prinicpal and AD are present as well as 4 four sheriff's deputies. We won't start a game if security isn't present.

I'm sure more people are present, but I'm not made aware of them and I don't worry about it. I have seen security/deputies/police in place, but that's usually at the bigger/city schools.

Game management here is (as RookieDude knows) the AD, the Principal, Vice Principal, my wife, my mother, my father, & myself. That's for a WIAA 1A Classification school.

At least the guy was polite in leaving.

Does everybody get a vote? If so, why don't you vote the Principal and the Principal In Charge of Vice off the island and declare yourself king?
