What is your take on players wearing rubberbands around there wrist?
|
They can take it off and play.

Sometimes...

Sometimes they (the rubberbands, not the players) go to the bench. Everytime, they go away. |
Where in the rules does it say that they cannot wear them....that is the response from the coach.....I had the players take them off.

Its a safety issue. However remote, it won't happen on my watch.

The rules also allow wristbands with elastic. A rubber band is just a wristband without the cloth. I ask players to remove them due to the slight danger, but if they don't, I don't get too worked up over it.

I don't ask. I just say, "Make the rubberband go away." We ain't votin'. :) |
I agree. The rubber bands go away. I've even had to have a player take rubber bands off of his ankles. Sheesh.

rubberbands on ankles.....ankle bracelets on referees...HHHMMM
I guess i better start looking at peoples ankles. AK ref SE |

Because Kobe Bryant wears them and if they wear them, they will be magically induced with the same abilities as Kobe.

I have an Email into the state...and asked for there ruling to determine what the state wants.....That way if the state says its okay...then I will not deal with it.....if the state goes the other way.....it should be enforced evenly where the players go in the state

good point Mick. As some have suggusted it is a safty issue. I don't see any safty issue concerning a rubberband.

A few years ago in a rec game, I had a kid get his finger caught under another players rubber band and it dislocated his finger. I know the odds against that are astronomical, but it happened.
From that day on - no rubber bands - period. |

The R has no authority to order a player to remove any dangerous article, just the authority to prohibit a player from playing with those dangerous articles. Listen carefully the next time you're at an airport security checkpoint. They (should) say, "May I look in your bag?" instead of "Let me search your bag." |

Also, a rubber band is definately more of a safety issue than a sweatband. First, a sweatband is usually more visible than a rubbber band, both size and colorwise. Also, a snapped rubber band can probably do more damage than a snapped sweatband. |

Of course, I prefer it when the ankles are up around the ears ... ;) |

I tell them they won't play any better with them on. Or make a joke and say that we can't have players with rubberbands because it makes them play better.
|
You guys better brace yourselves. I took my kid to get basketball shoes the other day. The sales clerk tossed my son a handful of .5" wide rubber bands with logos printed on them. They were different colors. I expect these are headed to a mall near you.
BTW, I have players remove them. |
Rubber bands will be removed in any of my games, period. This also includes those "friendship" bracelets made out of rope-like material. They ususally say they can't remove them because they either can't fit it over their hand or the girlfriend won't like it. I say OK, but you can't play. Amazingly, it comes off right away.
