Ouch is right. Not much you can do.
I would add that taking away two points with 8 minutes remaining in the game is not the reason this went into OT. There is no way to tell what would have happened, because the teams would have adjusted their strategies accordingly down the stretch.

From that story, we really don't have a clue what actually happened. The story said "the officials had no choice but to take the two points off the board even though Sells had made both free throws." Very obviously, the officials do have a choice under the rules of adding the points into the scorebook. It was not a correctable error; it was a bookkeeping error and as such can be corrected at any time. I'm guessing but the probable explanation is that the officials did not have the definite knowledge needed to change the book.

As usual, if you want the truth you have to get it from the officials, not a newspaper account. And right now, we don't know the truth.

It said the issue was free throws shot at the beginning of the half, and they didn't deal with it until the end of the third quarter.

Even if the officials did remember she made those free throws, there's very little chance that thay can know for sure that discrepancy is due to those points not being counted in the book.

If the officials remember that there were 2 FTs made that weren't recorded in the scorebook, they can add them at any time. Whether the 2 points that weren't counted in the book account for the discrepancy is completely irrelevant. The only thing that is relevant is that the scorebook is now accurate to the best of the officials' knowledge.

This incident highlights the reason that both books should be next to each other and constantly comparing their records. The discrepancy should have been found much sooner.

Any time a score keeping error decides a game it reflects badly on all of us who work the table.I am shocked that a varsity table crew (or any crew for that matter) could mysteriously lose two points.

Where was the communication between scorers? Apparently nonexistent as they were apparently daydreaming! At the first sign of an issue the home scorer should have asked for a horn so they could get the issue rectified. This is why I know my official's on a first name basis-whoever is table side would've heard me say "__________ we have a problem!",Play would've been blown dead and the situation corrected.

Was the clock/board operator watching the free throws and communicating with his/her school's official scorer to make sure the board was correct-apparently not?

The AD of the host school should be extremely embarrassed at the performance of his/her crew.Around here this would more than likely be cause for a school replacing its crew.I have to wonder if everybody was on cell phones at the same time.Could you imagine the uproar this would've caused in a MIAA playoff game?
