defenseive lane violation or not?

When shooter for team A has ball in hand is it or is it not a violation for player on team B to yell? It happened three times and each time player B yelled the exact same phrase as if responding to someone in the stands. Or is it just an act of poor sportsmanship. It was a youth game with a rather small crowd.

Youth games often get inexperienced officials who are typically gunshy on this particular call. Yes, it's a violation (disconcertion). When did they yell?

The yell

As stated it was a youth game. Coaches do the talking so no speaking captain. At the very least I would think the first violation would have simply stopped play and been afforded an explanation by the ref so kids can learn from the mistake and not repeat. The yell appeared to have been intentionally scripted by some rednecked coach who feels winning at all cost is the most important issue. The kid yelled as the various shooters were starting their shooting motion.

Well, I can't comment about the redneck coach's script, but I can tell you if a defender yells anything just as the shooter is starting to shoot, it's a delayed violation; enforced by another shot if the shooter misses. At the youth level, I'll call it and explain it.

And a bush league coach that teaches this tactic is also likely to get stupid and earn a T.

Again, however, in youth league basketball (anything played during the high school seasoned that's not sanctioned by at least a middle school), you're likely getting newer officials.

What was the phrase?
Just wondering....

Whether it was just a violation or also unsporting in nature is usually determined by (1) what was yelled, and (2) whether they yelled again and after being warned/penalized for doing so.

Btw, unfortunately incidents like this are fairly common in youth rec games with Daddy coaches that don't really know or understand the rules. Sometimes the coaches have to be educated along with the kids.

Some kids are very clever. They try yelling "I got the shooter!" during the try.

That was understood. I meant to put clever in quotes.
