I don't do any youth tournaments or travel team type games in basketball. Basketball is only school sanctioned games, jr high through varsity high school.

Been there. Done that. Thirty years ago I was saving up for my three kids to go to college. Money was an important factor in accepting games. My kids have pretty much finished college, at least the part that I pay for. I now officiate for many reasons, money may not be the most important.

Assuming no schedule changes or adds, I'm set for 222 for 2010.

In 2010, I worked 53 basketball games (48 varsity HS, 5 juco), 40 football games, and about 90 baseball games (including 20 overseas in a tournament). If I could figure out which sport to cut from my life, I would, but I like something about all of them.

I have 2 more basketball games in 2010. I had a holiday tourney lined up, but it was canceled in November.

I'm trying to figure out a way to add baseball back into my schedule.

I don't work a lot by choice. But this upcoming week will be my busiest week of this season. 2 BV tourney games on Monday and Tuesday then a college game on Wednesday and on New Year's Eve. 6 in one week is the most you'll ever catch me working outside of a camp environment.

Well, we're covered in snow. Thinking I'll lose at least my 2 games on Monday.

I'm now hooked up with games on Wednesday and Thursday this week -- one odd conference game (an odd time to play one, anyway) and a non-conference game the next night. More than enough for a holiday week. My busy part of the schedule starts on January 4, when I start with 8 games in 10 days.

I worked 149 games. I guess I'm getting old. In the past 10 years, I've averaged about 200 - 225 and worked 256 one year.

How about you guys? I'm talking about a calendar year from January through December.

OMG..I will do a total of FIVE January and February as a Rookie. I have a 3 week gap between games which is a bit frustrating especially when you need to be run out onto the floor as much as possible to learn.

How do you get your games? If it's through one assignor in an association, you need to have a conversation with that person. You *do* need to work more than 5 games in 2 months. 5 games (for me) is a good week.

61 HS Basketball games (57 V & 4 JV)
27 Other Basketball games (15 Rec & 12 AAU)
23 HS Football games (13 V and 10 JV)

111 games Total

Are there any recreation leagues in your area that your assignor doesn't book? They aren't the greatest but you need floor time.

Mregor Wed Dec 29, 2010 12:15am

Back in the day, I worked whenever someone asked me. Most I had in a year was in the 150's, 153 I believe. That included from YMCA-Rec League-Church League-traveling leagues- and H.S. Nowadays, I'm in the 30-40 range. This is basketball only.
