Sometimes I take 'em.
Sometimes they (the rubberbands, not the players) go to the bench.
Everytime, they go away.

Where in the rules does it say that they cannot wear them....that is the response from the coach.....I had the players take them off.

Its a safety issue. However remote, it won't happen on my watch.

Rule 3-5 (First paragraph) The referee shall not permit... equipment or apparel... dangerous or confusing... or is not appropriate.

The rules also allow wristbands with elastic. A rubber band is just a wristband without the cloth. I ask players to remove them due to the slight danger, but if they don't, I don't get too worked up over it.

I agree. The rubber bands go away. I've even had to have a player take rubber bands off of his ankles. Sheesh.

Because it's the only "jewelry" that the NBA allows on its players. So that's what the NBA players wear. So that's what the kids want to wear.

Because Kobe Bryant wears them and if they wear them, they will be magically induced with the same abilities as Kobe.

The rules do allow wristbands with elastic. I have seen in writting from the NCAA stating no rubberbands. However, no one has said anything about ankles. So, i have allowed them to take the rubberband off the wrist and put it on the ankle.
