Your Self-Improvement Suggestions?
 

A nearby association has an admirable phrase on their website: "Working to Be Better Officials Every Day." I like that. It assumes that learning and growing to be better takes effort, and that it doesn't just occur only during the 1-1/2 hour or so it takes to do a game. It also assumes there are things one can do daily to become better, apart from days on which assignments are carried out.
I am assembling a list of practical ways in which officials like you and I might do just that. Here's a sample/preliminary/start list of ideas gleaned from others, but I'd like your practical ideas to add to this list (or to edit items on the list).
Any further "one-liner" ideas you'd like to share in this thread:?

"Becoming Better Officials Every Day" . . .
. . . by taking some time each day to:
A. study some real-life situations online at: Dartfish.tv - Channel NFHS Basketball Officials Education Channel videos
B. review camp notes and handouts from previous years you've attended
C. verify upcoming schedule and confirm upcoming games as necessary
D. follow the discussions on the Officiating.com discussion board, using them to drive you into the Rulebook and Casebook
E. consider one rule section article from the rulebook and the related clarifications in the casebook
F. on an occasional open night, attend a game of whatever level to observe another official or crew, both those more and less experienced than you
G. attend a game and ask ahead of time to join the officiating crew in their locker room as a silent observer
H. study an article from a current or past issue of Referee magazine
I. review a rules quiz from a current or past issue of Referee magazine or state newsletter
J. maintain a list of game situations experienced, with relevant rules/casebook references
K. maintain a physical conditioning regiment
L. study video or DVD accounts of previous games you or others have done
M. make plans to attend officials' camp(s)
N. work on a project for which you volunteered for your local officials' association
O. maintain your journal describing recent games you've done
P. watch a college game, but with high school rules and mechanics in mind

Conditioning, conditioning, conditioning.

Observe video of yours and others games.

Are there situations on arbiter? I've never noticed.

Add:

Make plans to attend a summer camp. Then, make plans to attend two more.

Update your journal from last night's game.

Get involved in running your association. Prepare a training session for next year's meetings.

Hey, thanks for the link. Some very helpful Block/Charge/No Call videos there.

Not sure how much difference it makes to we officials at the h.s. level, but, most if not all of those videos are taken from college games.

Still, great situations and much to be learned. Just surprised the first time I went to the NFHS link and discovered that.

Almost all of the videos we watch in our meetings are from college games; we just watch them with high school rules in mind.
