Backcourt?
Was observing a game the other night and saw this play:
A1 bring the ball up under pressure from B. A1 in his backcourt between the top of the key the division line. A2 come from A's frontcourt to help and stops standing on the division line (toes in the backcourt, heels in the frontcourt). Just as he stops he catches a pass from A1. A2 then passes back to A1 who is still in the backcourt. Does A2 still have frontcourt status since he came from the frontcourt? Does he need to cross all the way into the backcourt to assume backcourt status? I just thought this was interesting as usually we are looking at establishing front court status and this case is somewhat different. |
4-35-2: When a player is touching the backcourt, out of bounds, or the three point line, the player is located in the backcourt, out of bounds, or inside the three point line, respectively.
Note that it says nothing about where the player is coming from. |
