Michigan-Harvard inadvertent whistle

Late stages of the Michigan-Harvard game--Michigan, under pressure in the backcourt, has a player in the air with possession near the sideline verbal for time, then lands OB. Official taps whistle to grant the TO, and seems to immediately realize the error--after a short conference, officials go with an inadvertent whistle. The play-by-play and color guy aren't catching on, but aren't saying anything stupid. Official comes to bench, and announcers seem to be relaying his message--inadvertent whistle, Michigan has the arrow, it's Michigan basketball.

Is there any scenario that you should go to alternate possession here?

It's right out of the ARs

Nope...officials ruled IW and Michigan was in possession of the ball then the ball goes back to Michigan.

I certainly hope they didn't go to the AP arrow.

Are you sure they used the AP arrow?

I'm not. It was late in the game, and I don't know arrow status before or after the play.

I would have just assumed the broadcasters didn't have a clue (since Greg Kelser was one, it's almost a given) but they seemed to wait and simply relay info as it was given by the official addressing the table.

I see. It's possible they got "some" information and just filled in the blanks with their own preconceived notions.

Right, that's my theory.

Information given: we're resuming from the POI.

Announcer interp: they're using the AP arrow.
