Coach wants TO back

Does 5-8-4 pertain to the scorekeeper recording the wrong player with a personal foul?

ART. 4
Time-out occurs and the clock, if running, shall be stopped when an official:

Responds to the scorer's signal to grant a coach's request that a correctable error, as in 2-10, or a timing, scoring or alternating-possession mistake be prevented or rectified. The appeal to the official shall be presented at the scorer's table where a coach of each team may be present.

FTR, we corrected the error but we didn't give the TO back to him. It felt weird because we made a correction, but it didnt involve free throws or timing or AP. And he was so serious about getting the TO back!

The only thing that stumps me in the rule is "scoring", how is that interpreted?
Is scoring about points only?
If they meant fouls too, wouldnt they have added recordkeeping to the rule?
If you correct something, do you automatically give TOs back?
I need to know for sure-sure.

Thanks!

No TO should have been charged. It was a scorer's mistake that was rectified. And yes, if you correct a scorer's mistake, you simply do not charge the TO to anybody. There is no time limit to correct the scorer's mistake either, unlike a correctable error under 2-10.
