double dribble?

A1 dribbles the ball off his foot, chases the ball down, graps it & begins a new dribble.

Yes, when A1 grabs the ball, the dribble ends. To start another is a violation.

I believe it would make a difference if he retrieves it with one hand (continues his dribble=OK) versus retrieving it with two hands (then dribbles=travel).

If he "retrieves" it, then it doesn't matter. The original dribble has ended and any subsequent dribble would be a violation.

If he "continues the dribble" then the play is legal.
