Whackless Season No More
 
Backboard whack led to player whack. "I was going for the ball," said the player. "Not even close," I replied. No attitude issues. It was actually a kind of fun technical, if there is such a thing.

You'd appreciate this, 26YG. There was a backboard whack in the tourney last year in Bangor. The vet official had a "what did you do THAT for?" look on his face before Ting him up. I admit I had the same look.

Anyway, in your case, what was this player's purpose in hitting the backboard?

Don't know. He was late to the party and had no chance to make a defensive play. The shot already had caromed off the backboard and was nowhere near this guy when he slammed the backboard.

Probably an attempt to draw attention to the himself, or a means of venting frustration. Isn't that why we charge technical fouls for such an act?
