NCAAM mechanics

At NU/Creighton last night and lead calls foul on a rebound and we're going the other way, to be inbounded at endline. He goes to table to report and C becomes lead as opposed to fed where lead would stay. I just never noticed this before. Any variables on this? Would lead stay home if foul was halfway up back court?

If the ball is to be inbounded on the endline opposite the table the calling official has the option to report & go back to new T or report & push to new L.

Must switch if the throw-in is table side.

Yep, it was table side, so switch was initiated as you stated.

In NCAA-M the calling officials is always required to go opposite the table.

In the frontcourt, yes. Until last year, the mechanic in the OP was the same as the FED mechanic. Lead calls the foul, reports, and goes back to the endline in the backcourt to administer the throw-in.

Now I guess it is as the other replies stated.

Backcourt or frontcourt the calling official is required to go opposite table. If the new Trail is going to be tableside to administer the throw-in then the old Lead will become the new Center. If the new Trail will be administering opposite the table then the calling official can either go to new Trail or new Lead.

I believe the officials have an option. They can go to the Center on a "long switch" or they can go back and be the new trail (if they were the lead). I will look it up to be for sure, but that is what I read.

Peace

From John Adams via the Arbiter NCAA Hub on October 28, 2010:

There has been quite a bit of confusion regarding the approved mechanic to be used by the Lead, opposite the table, who calls a player or team control foul. We are posting pictures of the approved mechanics and they coincide with page 20 and 88 in the CCA Manual. Briefly, if you report any foul, your new position is opposite the table. In the scenario I just referenced, the Lead official has two options:

"He can clear himself, get a good sight line to the table, report the foul and go back to the base line, administer the throw in and become the new Trail or he can get much closer to the center of the floor, report the foul, and become the new Lead. It's one of those plays where circumstances will dictate the rotation."

Hope this clears up any confusion.

Per CCA manual: Its an option if the throw-in spot is opposite table.
