NBA to D1

I was watching the Duke/K-State game last night and thought I recognized one of the officials form the NBA and it was Sean Corbin. I'm pretty sure he has had some playoff games in recent NBA years so does anyone know the deal why he is doing D1 and not NBA?

This is purely hearsay from someone who has been around D1 ball for a few years but I heard the NBA offered him some sort of early retirement package. May be the same case for Joe Derosa.
