What do you carry?

So I need to restock my basketball bag with all the stuff I carry around during the season. (Static-Guard, lint roller, gum, small dry erase board, etc)

What do you guys carry in your bags besides uniforms? I'm looking for things that I may have forgotten about.

Mark Padgett Tue Nov 23, 2010 03:58pm

meds!

doubleringer Tue Nov 23, 2010 04:07pm

High school rules book, casebook, and any other publications I've purchased for the year.

NCAA rules book, casebook, and official's manual

A few materials gathered from camps pertaining to pregame and points of emphasis

Whistles

Needles (for taking air out of the ball. A flat ball goes in more :D)

Shoe de-stink stuff (the little blue can that sprays inside your shoe. I don't know the name)

Stickers for the official book

Towel/wet bag

everything else is uniforms.

bob jenkins Tue Nov 23, 2010 04:13pm

extra shoelaces
sewing kit
ibuprofen (or your choice)
mouth wash
band aids
maps, contact information (maybe not in the bag, but in the car)
saline solution
athletic tape
any pre/post-game stretching aids you use (calfstretcher, roller, exercise bands, etc.)
pen

Bob is exactly right on the money about this "little" item. Over the years, I've had to use these 2 or 3 times. They were a life saver.

I also carry a quarter in my bag in case I need to make a call and my cell won't get reception inside the school. Usually there's a pay phone in the school lobby (especially if it's an old school). I haven't had to use this in about 10 years but you never know.

YIKES - I just realized I used the term "old school"! Oh no!

-Extra lanyards
-State mandated pre-game statement card to coaches/captains
-Extra set of contact lenses
-Biofreeze
-Hairspray (I don't carry it but have had partners that use it before games)

You might need to add another quarter. Most pay phones I've seen (the three or four in the last few years) require at least 35 cents.

I hope that you two geezers realize that a large number of Forum members are saying to themselves, "What is this pay phone of which they speak?".

I always call collect. BTW - I think I'm going to have to start carrying a hand warmer in my bag. It looks like we're going to have a much colder than normal winter here in Oregon. Today, the high in Portland (no, not the residents - they're high enough) was only 30 degrees. That made it the coldest November day in Portland in over a quarter of a century! Imagine - Portland hasn't had a high daily temperature below freezing in anytime in November in the past 25 years.

Oh yeah - it "snowed" during the night- about 1/4 inch. Here, they consider that a blizzard. Almost all evening school activities were canceled yesterday and today. If the weather stays like this for the next few months, I'm sure a lot of games will get canceled. When I tell my relatives back in Chicago about this stuff, they just laugh.
