Mostly, we just stood still
Finished up a middle school girls "tip off" tournament yesterday. Had a consolation game in what I was told was the "losers bracket". It was 6th graders. Final score was 9-6. And this was with 22 minute running halves, so there was plenty of time to score. Here's the extra weird part - all the points were scored on 3 point shots!
At the end of the game, I went to the table to find out, just out of curiosity, how many free throws were missed. The winning team missed all 8 of theirs and the losing team missed all 11 of theirs. There were probably about 4 or 5 fast breaks in the entire game and only two resulted in actual layup attempts. Of course, both were missed. As you may have surmised, we weren't in bonus in either half for either team. After the game, I asked my partner what he thought of it. He said he didn't know because he was still asleep. :p I think next year, they should call this the "Turnover Tournament". |
How nervous were you with the realization that with one shot, you could be going to OT?

Jr. High Girls basketball is awesome!!
I once called a game with 72 APs. Seriously. Just last week, I called a game in which the final score was 11-3. 2 of the 3 points for the losing team were scored by the winning team on the opening tip. |

Ran in to another ref at the grocery store today who worked some of the tournament games on Saturday. He said one of his 8th grade games ended 86-12. YIKES!
