Vaseline on shoes?

I had someone tell me to put Vaseline on my shoes to give it a little more shine.

If anyone has tried this please tell me how well it works.

Just remember that foreign substances are not allowed, so make sure the Vaseline is made in America!!

Sorry. Old Oakland Raiders joke.

So if no foreign substances are allowed, then that means the entire officials' uniform has to be made in America??

I can't imagine putting Vaseline on my shoes when those silicone sponge things are so cheap and easy to use.

That was probalby due to lingering nitrogen narcosis.

I narced pretty good during my advanced open water certification...I get that same sense of euphoria when officiating and twice I swear I saw a turtle swim by during the game. I have only seen sharks or the sideline though - usually circling on either side of the scorer's table.

That turtle event must have been during a half-court set.....they just don't come out for fastbreaks.

I was diving once and thought I saw a guy in a suit/tie with a clipboard decending past me wearing concrete fins. I didn't think Apollo made their biofin in that material, DUI made drysuits resembling a sport suit, and there were dive slates that big with rectangles and cirlcles predrawn on them. I thought I had to be narc'd. When I surfaced, there were a bunch of guys in stripes standing on the pier. Didn't think anything of it at the time....now you make me wonder.

I have known people do do this along with shoe polish to add to a shine. I have also seen people use baby oil as well. I even used a little baby oil with one of those shining pads and it works. What ever works I guess.

Peace

I find this post perfectly suited to a thread entitled "Vaseline on shoes?"

Buffing a thin layer of Vaseline onto shoes that are made of Corfam or patent leather will give one a temporary shine, but Vaseline is sticky and will collect dust and there goes the shine you wanted.

note: Corfam is a patent leather like material, that members of the police and military wear, that do not need shining. Anybody who is in the military wouldn't be wearing dress uniform shoes made from Corfam until he is out of bootcamp because one needs to learn how to spit shine shoes so that one can see his reflection in the shoe. ;)

Surely I'm allowed one tangent out of every 1000 posts. ;)

And an impressive, (to me) unintelligible tangent it was!

Far be it from me to permit or forbid anyone posting anything, but I do reserve the right to comment. ;)

I just tried a new technique for myself last week.

I bought a pair of Air Max 2009's and wanted an easy way to polish them. So I went to the auto parts store and bought a tube of Armor All Protectant wipes. They work like a charm. I take a rag to them after every game to wipe off any dust or debris. It looks great and seems like the tube may last the entire year (given that they don't dry out).

I thought about the vaseline rout but it just seems that it would never dry up or come off.

Better yet. In contrast with petroleum-based lubricants, like Vaseline, K-Y Jelly is biologically inert, and contains no color or perfume additives. It doesn't stain and is easily cleaned up. Just what we need, a commercial with an official rubbing K-Y Jelly on his, or her, shoes, in total ecstasy. Can you picture it? Can you?

It's a process, especially the first time you do it, but I've become a huge fan of leather luster. Put it on before the season starts and you're good to go for the year. Most officials' suppliers have it.

Shape Up (I think that's what it's called) is easier and quicker. It doesn't last quite as long -- I can *almost* get through a season with it.

If one of my partners broke out a jar of Vaseline or tube of KY in the locker room, I would make sure that my back was firmly placed against the wall. If I happend to need something I dropped, I would soccer style kick them out of the locker room before bending down and picking it up!!
This is why I wear shoes that have very little "polishable" surface!!
