Hello again all...
I used to be bas2456, but for some reason it wouldn't let me post here anymore.
Glad to be back...now I have a question. In my games yesterday, one of the coaches did something I've never seen before, and would like your interpretation. In the first half, Team B scores. After inbounding the ball, Coach A calls A1 over to the bench for instruction. A1 never leaves the court while the coach is talking to him. A2, 3, 4, and 5 continue down the court to play offense. Eventually A1 runs back into the play. Could this be construed as gaining an unfair advantage, or is there nothing against the rules here? The coach is putting his team at a disadvantage by sending 4 players to try to score against 5. Then, when the player comes back into the play, he could sneak right by the defense for a layup. Opinions? |
What exactly are you seeing here that you think is illegal?
|
Did A1 become invisible? How would he "sneak right by" defenders?
|
good coaching, imo...
|
As long as he/she doesn't leave the court, you got nothin'.
You've really never seen something like this before? In my experience, it's pretty common in kid hoops, on up to varsity ball -- depending on the coach. |
I see coaches pull the kid close to the bench all the time.
|
I've seen it during free throws and such, but not during live action.

Well if A1 had the ball and it took longer than 10 seconds you would have something if it was in the back court

It's still a live ball during the free throws. You're right, it's more common during free throws, but I've seen it during non-free throw action, too. As long as the kid stays on the court, it's nothing. |

On a side note, back when I was in high school this used to be a favorite play of the girls varsity coach. It never seemed to work very well for him though... |
Thanks. Maybe I'm just thinking too much. Just thought I'd bounce it off you all to see what you thought.
