The Ducks are at it again......

Thoughts on this floor? Wow!

Oregon's crazy new basketball floor is quintessentially Oregon - The Dagger - NCAAB - Yahoo! Sports

I sort of like it. But what is that under the "O" at mid court? It looks like a Stone Henge tribute.

It's a representation of the security gate around Bill Gates' house. :p

BTW - off topic, but the Ducks football team is now 9-0 for the first time in their history after beating Washington (and the spread) this afternoon. Of course, they expect to still be ranked number one in the BCS poll when it comes out.

Interesting & unique, especially since the court is not permanent.

It's the arena's logo.

Observations on Oregon Court

- It's probably not as busy graphically when on the court vs the sky box view
- Many of the lines are green on brown. I don't think that's the best color combination for picking up close OOB calls.
- The white on white three point arc looks to be difficult to pick up
- I'd say the artist created what was intended, but at the end of the day did they create the best floor on which to actually contest a basketball game? I'd say no.

You Can't See The Forest Through The Trees ...

Love the effect of looking "up" into the canopy of a forest of fir trees.

One question. The brownish colors make the fir trees look dead or dying. Why aren't they painted in shades of green?

Also, I'm surprised that they didn't paint in some tree hugging, pot smoking, hippies spiking the trees to prevent logging.

For added effect ...

The cheerleaders will be dressed as woods nymphs.

Where's Waldo (Robin Hood Version) ???

Look carefully. This guy has got to be hiding in this forest somewhere.

If they did that, the officials would repeatedly stop the game thinking there were fans on the court.

It says "Matt," as in Phil Knight's late son, for whom the arena is named.

grunewar Mon Nov 08, 2010 05:02am

Isn't that a violation?

Oops, sorry, wrong thread! ;)

Illegal by NFHS rules

The restraining circle does not have a clearly defined division line. This would not be legal in high school. Is this floor legal per NCAA rules?

If it doesn't, then no it isn't.

Thanks. I was curious, I didn't see anything about it in the article, but I only skimmed it.
Pardon the pun, but the design is growing on me. I know officially like it.

I saw a different image of the floor on video and the lines were much more visible in it than the graphic posted in this thread.

Is there a hidden spotted owl that we are supposed to find?

Yes. And it tastes better than chicken. ;)

Here is a real picture of the court. It does not look nearly as bad as I would have thought it would.

Real picture of the court

Where does it say the rules "clearly defined?" All the rules says in NF is that the line must be solid or a shadow line. Hard to tell this by the pictures, but that does not mean the line is not solid either.

NFHS rule 1-3-2NOTE says that "the continuous 2-inch wide outline must be clearly visible to the officials". That's the same as "clearly defined" for all practical reasons imo.

The key to that is "to the officials." Even the graphic that was shown was not as good as the picture I showed at least when looking at the 3 point line.

I was aware of the wording, but it does not say it has to be anything to those watching from a far. That is why there can be a shadow line and anyone on the court can clearly see the line. Case in point the Conference and NCAA Tournaments.

Peace
