Just conducting a quick poll to bring back to our association.

What are your thoughts on wearing shorts when reffing (NFHS).

From October to March, pants only, regardless of level of play.

April to September, shorts are fine, regardless of level of play (Unless you happen to be working the NCAA Finals on April 2 ).

Pants are easier for me -- no shaving! but I guess that doesn't affect 75% of you, does it?

I KNOW what Padgett will say, "Way too much information!!"

Do you mean 75% of male officials or 75% of all officials?

we only wear pants for NFHS games, but those of us with nice legs wouldn't mind wearing shorts. For the rest of the officials please wear pants!

If they let us I would, but until then I am not going to worry about it.

I wear shorts in volleyball, track, and Lacrosse, so it would not be a huge deal for me.

Don't NBA games run until May/June?

And WNBA runs May thru August. But I know many on this board don't consider NBA and WNBA "real" basketball.

May through August, we wear shorts unless we are doing AAU games. We do have exceptions to the AAU rule, but half the time you don't hear about it until you arrive at the game and find out you are the only one wearing pants or shorts depending on whether you got the message. I simply carry both with me. BTW, I only shave 1 leg and I usually alternate weeks.

Thumbs up

Shorts are cool especially in Northern Ontario where the gyms are heated and it is very hot in there.

But PP,

It can be 40 below outside, and I'm still going to want to wear my shorts. I'm bringing this up at the next association meeting.
